Missing and Murdered Indigenous...Men? Why are there so many missing men and boys from the Yakama reservation? Part 2 of 2.

Missing and murdered indigenous people
If you have spent any time reading about true crime, you probably know that American Indian/ Native American women go missing from the United States and Canada at alarming rates. On some reservations, women experience violence and are victims of homicide at 10x the rate of women in other communities.
But what about men and boys? Missing and murdered Indigenous boys and men are the forgotten group of this epidemic of violence on tribal land and many families are aching to see the cases of their missing/murdered male loved ones solved. Just like with the missing women, men and boys are going missing at an alarming rate on tribal land, but race is not the only factor. Men (and women) of all ethnicities who live on the Yakama reservation are missing and murdered at disturbing rates.
Missing and murdered indigenous people is a complex issue with prejudice and jurisdictional issues playing major roles. If you want to know more about the root of these issues, I suggest “Missing and Murdered” podcast by Indigenous Canadian journalist Connie Walker, who explains the issues much better than I ever could; that podcast is linked below.
Today, I want to highlight the stories of some of these men and boys, specifically those missing from the Yakama community. Because there are so many missing people who are practically unknown, I have decided to profile the cases of ALL the men and boys missing from the reservation, regardless of race.
This is a companion piece to another write up I completed about missing women and girls from the Yakama reservation. That write up can be found here. If some sections sound similar that is probably why. https://www.reddit.com/UnresolvedMysteries/comments/htvnv6/extensive_write_up_on_missing_and_murdered/
Background
Washington state is home to the fifth largest Indian reservation in the United States, the Yakama reservation, which is home to the Klickitat, Palus, Wallawalla, Wenatchi, Whishram, Wanapum, and Yakama people. According to the US Census Bureau, only the Osage, Puyallup (also in Washington state), Navajo, and Choctaw reservations are more populous. The Yakama reservation is located in South Central Washington state, just south of the city of Yakima. Of the 31,000 people who lived on the reservation, 11,000 are enrolled tribal members. Most people who live on the reservation claim Hispanic/Latino, white, or mixed-race descent, but Hispanic is by far the most common ethnic group. There are also small Filipino, Japanese, and Korean communities nearby. The Yakama reservation is located just south of the town of Yakima, Washington, a large farming community of 100,000 people. Apples, cherries, peaches, pears, grapes, and hops are all grown in the dry surrounding region. Harvest time brings thousands of migrant workers to the area, so the population is always in flux.
Outside of Yakima is the town of Union Gap (Pop. 8000), which is partially on the reservation, and partially off it. There are two other proper towns on reservation, Toppenish (pop. 8000) and Wapato (pop. 5000). Other small communities such as Satus, Harrah, White Swan, and Granger all boast several hundred residents each. All in all, the Yakama nation consists of 2,200 square miles of sprawling, rural land stretching from south central Washington nearly to the Oregon border. But from this unassuming patch of high desert and grassland, more than 30 Native women have gone missing/were murdered. If we add Native men to the equation, the number jumps to nearly 40 unsolved disappearances, deaths, and murders. If we add the deaths and disappearances of non-native people missing from the reservation, the number grows yet again.
Although the land is vast, the tribal population is small. From my estimates over .5% of native people on the reservation are missing or murdered. Like many tribal communities, unemployment and poverty is common, appropriate housing is scare, and according to the tribal council "disregard for the rule of law and general civil unrest" as well as gun violence and substance abuse is common. In 2019 a curfew was instated after a particularly bad shooting.
According to the Washington State Patrol, the Yakama nation has the highest percentage of missing people of any Native community in the state, even though they are not the most populous. The FBI created a task force in 2009 to investigate the possibility of serial killer among the Yakama, but the investigation determined that a serial killer was unlikely, but not impossible. This was because the causes of death were so different from victim to victim. The investigation did close 2 cases on the reservation after DNA on both women linked them to a man serving life in an Oregon prison, but the man is not believed to be responsible for any other crimes in the inquiry.
Whether a serial killer is loose on tribal land or not, this issue is complex and long standing and demonstrates how much substance abuse, domestic violence, accidents, and random crime affect the native communities in this county at 10x the rate of other communities. Some progress has been made such as state bill 2951 which allows Washington state authorities to track cases and help investigate and search for missing individuals on tribal land. Because tribal lands are usually under federal jurisdiction, state authorities previously were not able to help, despite being more familiar with the area than the FBI. This is only one small step in the right direction and although awareness is growing, the epidemic of missing and murdered indigenous people will not simply go away.
Many people have heard of this epidemic, but few know the names of the victims; today it is time to change that. Below are the profiles of 20 men and boys who are missing, murdered, or who have suffered mysterious deaths. For some of the individuals very little information is available. The list below is not necessarily complete. If you know of other unsolved cases let me know in the comments below.
Quick guide: Yakima- large town near, but not on, the reservation
Yakama- the tribe and people group
NOTE: all cases organized most to least recent. In order to be profiled the cases in this piece must have some connection to the Yakama Indian reservation. This could mean those who lived on the reservation, were last seen on the reservation, are believed to be missing within the confines of reservation, or are of Yakama heritage by birth. Hope that makes sense.
Missing
Bernard Schieber, 86, of Yakima has not been seen since Aug. 8, 2019, when he left his home in the 2500 block of South 84th Avenue in Yakima. His black, full-size Chevrolet pickup was found a few weeks later in a closed portion of the Yakama Nation reservation. It appears to have been parked normally and not crashed or damaged. When he left his home in the city of Yakima, Bernard had only ¼ tank of gas and no money. He suffers from dementia. Bernard is described as a white male with blue eyes and gray hair. He weighs 190 lbs. and stands 5’ 11” tall. Anyone with any information about Schieber is asked to call the Yakima County Sheriff's Office at 509-574-2500. He is still missing.
Josiah “Jo” Michael Hilderbrand aged 25 and his friend 47-year-old Jon Joseph Cleary left southern California in early June 2020 to travel to a Grateful Dead concert at The Gorge a venue in Washington state. Both men were traveling together in a light blue 2004 Honda Civic hybrid when they were last heard from on June 7th, 2019. On June 8th their abandoned burned out car was found 8 miles west of Toppenish in a deserted, rural area of the reservation. The FBI has stated they believe the men are dead but they are officially listed as missing.
Josiah Hilderbrand is described as white male, age 25, with light brown wavy hair and blue eyes. He is 5’8” and 165 lbs. He has a neck tattoo. Jon Cleary is a white male, 47 years old, and 6’3” in height weighing 230 lbs. He has brown/gray hair and beard and brown eyes. He usually wears a baseball cap.
Remains found August 5th, 2020 near Toppenish may belong to the men. The FBI is handling the case as the men were found on tribal land. The families are offering $35,000 for information that can solve the murders. Even if the remains are those of the “Dead Heads” the crimes of their deaths remain unsolved.
Strangely enough Hilderbrand and Cleary died on the same day that a mass shooting occurred in White Swan where two men, Donovan Quinn Carter Cloud and James Dean Cloud, killed five people. The shooters have been convicted in that crime and some have speculated that both crimes are related. This mass shooting was the crime that inspired that reservation-wide curfew to be put into effect.
Elias Chief Culps, 25, was last seen in White Swan on Dec. 27, 2018 and has not been heard from since. In 2015 Elias was a witness in a court case about unreasonable searches and seizures and whose jurisdiction should be involved when fugitives are found on tribal land- the outcome of that case is unknown. There is little information available about Elias’ disappearance. Those with information are asked to call the Yakama Nation Police Department at 509-865-2933, case number 19-009167. He is described as a Native American male, 5’6”-5’7” in height and 150-170 lbs. He has brown hair and eyes and a tattoo on his neck.
Jose Francisco Canales a 43-year-old father of 7 children was last heard from on July 7, 2018 in Harrah, Washington where he resided with his wife of nineteen years. He was last seen at La Guadalupana (a store in Harrah) on July 6, 2018 where he cashed his paycheck. The next day, July 7th, he called his boss to report that he would not be coming into work that day. This was the last time anyone saw or heard from Canales. He is described as a Hispanic male, 5’7” or 5’8” in height and 145 lbs. with brown hair and eyes. He has a scar on his left hand about 1” in length and a tattoo of a heart on his right arm/shoulder area. He was last seen wearing along-sleeved t-shirt (possibly green), blue jeans, brown sneakers and a blue baseball cap. He has a receding hairline and some gray hairs in his beard. Canales may be driving a gray 1994 Ford Ranger single cab pickup truck with the Washington license plate number B53351T. There may be a green 2018 Polaris 450HO four-wheeler in the bed of the truck; it has the vehicle identification number (VIN) 4XASEA509JA252860. Canales's case remains unsolved.
Rolando Gabriel "Gabby" Gutierrez, of Mabton has been missing since Sept. 16, 2017. The 44-year-old was the oldest of six siblings and was close to his family. When his family last heard from him, Gutierrez was in Puerto Peñasco, also known as Rocky Point, a Mexican fishing and resort city on the Gulf of California. He was staying in the area and had weekly phone contact with his family. Gabby was planning to come home for his niece’s birthday in October, but he never made it. One of his sisters worried that Gabby was “wrapped up” in the drug trade. In November 2019, forensic scientists in the Mexican state of Sonora announced that they had recovered 52 bodies and skeletons from a mass grave near Puerto Peñasco. Gabby’s family told an Associated Press reporter that they thought there might be a chance his body was among them, but this is not known for certain. Rolando “Gabby” Gutierrez is described as either a Hispanic or a mixed race (Caucasian/ Hispanic) male who is 5’10” in height and weights 180-260 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes but he shaves his head. He also has a zodiac cancer symbol tattooed on his arm and has pierced nipples. There is currently a go fund me for Gabby’s family so one of his siblings can travel to Mexico to give their DNA for comparison. Mexican authorities are investigating this case.
Kristopher Fowler, 34, was last seen Oct. 12, 2016. Fowler, affectionately known as "Sherpa" and “Kris” was hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and had started at the border with Mexico with a goal of completing the 2,800-mile trek to the Canadian border. He was last seen in the White Pass area only a few hundred miles from his destination. Kris was last seen at a convenience store in very rural Yakima county. Kris is described as a white male, 6’2” and 165 lbs. He has blonde hair and beard and blue eyes. He is believed to be lost in the wilderness. His step mother still hopes the body can be recovered some day. Those with information should call the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office at 509-574-2500.
Joseph Eric Miranda Jr., 24, has been missing from Granger since May 26, 2016. Reports say Joseph went to his bedroom on May 26, 2016 around 10:30 pm after talking with his father. His mother went to check on him in the morning but he was nowhere to be found. She last saw him late on the evening of May 25, 2016 and initially thought he had gone on a walk never returned. It is unclear if Miranda and his wife also lived at the house with his parents or if he was only staying there. According to one source, Miranda left his wife a note that said he “wouldn’t be seeing her for a while.” Miranda had a bank card and a cellphone with him when he disappeared, but because the cellphone was a government issued phone (a burner phone maybe?) it cannot be pinged. His bank card was last used on May 25th to buy a soda at a gas station and it has never been used again. He left his keys and his car at his parent’s home. There has been some activity on Miranda’s social security card but it is unknown if the user is Miranda or an identity thief. Joseph’s favorite movie is a 2014 film called Wild, about a girl who hikes through the wilderness of the Pacific Crest trail. His family worries he embarked on a similar journey and either got lost of met with foul play. They ask that if Joseph is out there to please contact them so that they know he is alive and well.
Joseph is described as a Hispanic male, 5’7” or 5”8 and 180-195 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes. Miranda had long hair and a beard at the time of his disappearance and usually wore his hair long but occasionally cut it very short. He wears prescription eyeglasses with silver frames. He has a strawberry birthmark on his chest and a small mole on his upper lip. When last seen he was wearing multi colored swim trunks, a green long-sleeved shirt and superman flip flops. He often wears flip flops, his Rx glasses, and bandanas or hats on his head. If you have seen Miranda or have information please called the Granger PD at 509-854-2656.
Chad Nathan Stotz-Gomez, 36 of Union Gap, drifted between homeless camps at the time of his disappearance, but talked to his mother and other family members regularly. He was last seen on July 10th 2015. He has not been seen or heard from since. Some believe that this case is connected to the case of Cody Turner (details below). The same day Stotz-Gomez disappeared, there was shooting at a homeless camp between Yakima and Selah, Washington. The victim, a 36-year-old woman, was injured but the victim has not cooperated with law enforcement and no arrests have been made. Police found Stotz-Gomez's DNA at the shooting scene. Some have speculated that the shooting is connected to the November 2015 murder of Norma Emmerson, who was shot in the head outside East Selah, Washington. Some reports say Norma had information about a homicide committed by her ex-boyfriend, Raven Cutler. Cutler ultimately pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. Cutler told Cody Turner's mother he'd seen Cody Turner (case below) and Stotz-Gomez together in downtown Yakima, but his information has not been verified. Other witnesses believe that the two men, Turner and Stotz-Gomez, knew each other casually and believe that their disappearances must be related.
In the past Stotz-Gomez has lived in New York and Montana and he may have traveled there. At the time of his disappearance, was required to check in weekly with the police. Stotz-Gomez is described as a Hispanic or mixed-race Hispanic/Caucasian male, 5’9” and 180-190 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes and usually wears a beard. He has the following tattoos: barbed wire on his upper left arm, a skull with wings on his right arm, the letters "SUR" on one hand, the number 13 on the other hand, and a small cholo face on his chest. If you have any information please contact the Yakima County Sheriff's Office 509-574-2550.
Cody Turner, 24, was last seen July 26, 2015, in Yakima leaving the home he shared with his father and grandparents. Cody had been gone that day with his dog Ariel but arrived at the home in the evening where he ate, showered, and picked up some cigarettes before leaving the house again. He had his cellphone on him but since July 28th, 2015 the phone has gone straight to voicemail. According to some sources Cody was homeless at the time of his disappearance but according to others he lived at his grandparent’s house with his father. Cody has a history of meth usage and his family believes he was using at the time of his disappearance. Despite his drug use, Cody’s family said he usually returned home every evening and talked to his family daily. He does not have a history of dropping out of sight or being out of touch with his family.
Cody is described as a white male 5'5 - 5'7, 150 - 170 pounds. He has sandy colored hair and green eyes. He keeps his hair very short and tidy. He sometimes wears facial hair (a goatee and mustache) which he keeps short. Turner's nickname is Cooter. He has two scars, one on his left wrist and one on his abdomen. His ears and tongue are pierced, but he had stopped wearing his earrings and tongue ring prior to his disappearance. Turner has the following tattoos: the name "Natilie" with flames and barbed wire on his right bicep, three skulls with swords going through them on his left bicep, and a tribal stamp on the inside of his upper left arm. Turner has previously fractured his left foot and he smokes cigarettes. His case may be connected to Chad- Stotz Gomez’s case which is why it is included in this piece, even though he has no connection to the reservation.
Justin Lee McConville has been missing from Toppenish since sometime in January 2015. He was 24 years old at the time and was last seen on the Yakama reservation, but often travels to Oregon and fishes along the Columbia River. Some sources say he is nomadic and had no permanent address but others say he lives in Toppenish. Justin is described as a Native American male with long brown hair which he wears in a pony tail and brown eyes. McConville has a half-sleeve tattoo of a Native American man, Chief Joseph, on his upper right arm. He also has a tattoo of a tribal fishing design on his left arm and a tattoo of a Native American design on his back. He is 6’0”-6’2” and weights 165 lbs. Yakama Tribal Police are investigating. They can be reached at 509-865-2933.
Anthony “Tony” Peters, also known as Anthony Colfax Peters, 56, was last seen in October 2014 at Legends Casino in Toppenish. According to his sister, Peters was homeless at the time, living with relatives or friends or elsewhere when necessary, but he regularly talked to his family and friends. According to his sister, Alfrieda, Tony like many homeless individuals had a complicated life. His temper sometimes got him into trouble, but eventually he always came around. His sister remembers him as a natural born artist who did powwow dancing, beadwork, and drawing for fun. He was also a good singer. In the past, he has been known to travel to other nearby reservations such as the Umatilla or Warm Springs. He has also been known to travel to Seattle. He would drop out of sight from time to time, but never for more than a few weeks.
Tony is described as a Native American male with black hair and brown eyes. Peter’s nickname is Tony, and he may use the name Anthony Colfax Peters. He has an overlapped front tooth and one front tooth is missing. He is 5’6” and his weight fluctuates regularly. His missing person case remains open with the Yakama Nation Police Department, number 15-006132.
Roland Elton Woodall Sconawah a Yakama by birth was last seen in either Lyle or Dallesport Washington in November, 2013. Both communities lie on the Columbia river in Klickitat county in what was once the land of the Yakama people. Tribal members have fishing rights in the area even though it is not technically on the reservation. This is where Roland was last seen. The 23-year-old was somewhat transient. He went missing under unclear circumstances. Roland is described as a Native American male with brown eyes and black hair. He stands at 5'6 - 5'8, and weighs 140 - 160 pounds. He is sometimes referred to as Roland Sconawah Sam. Klickitat county sheriff’s office 509-773-4545, is investigating.
Ira Kennedy Yallup Sr. was last seen at the Lone Pine fishing site near The Dalles, OR. in May 2010. His family has offered a $1,000 reward for information about his whereabouts. He is a Native male in his 50s with black hair. No other vital statistics are available and he does not even have a Charley Project page. Yakama tribal police are investigating.
Francisco Javier Mendoza was 27 years old when he was last seen in the early morning hours of June 8th 1994 leaving a 7-11 convenience store in Toppenish. Francisco was with two friends at the time. Later that morning, the three friends were outside of Toppenish when their car broke down. Francisco apparently went walking in the direction of town in order to get help and vanished into the night. He has never been seen again. Few details are available and his friends’ story is considered suspicious. Francisco is described as a Hispanic male, 5’5” in height weighing 160 lbs. He has black hair and brown eyes. Mendoza may have a mustache, beard or a goatee. Some agencies may spell his first name "Franciso." He was wearing a white tank top, shorts and sneakers when he was last seen. Toppenish police are investigating, 509-865-4355.
Lawrence Jay "Larry" Riegel, 57 of Yakima worked as a carpenter and contract pilot before breaking four vertebrae, and injury that left him disabled. Right before going missing Larry had a surgery on his neck and some sources claim he was in a neck brace. Unable to work, Riegel was collecting disability. The last contact anyone had with Larry took place on Christmas day, 2009. He contacted several relatives and friends including a call to his mother to thank her for some clothes she bought him for the holiday. He was supposed to join his family in Yakima for a belated Christmas dinner on Dec. 26, 2009, but he never showed up or called. Riegel’s family described him as a “chatty Cathy” who talked to just about anyone and had daily phone contact with his friends and family. Riegel’s last phone call took place at approximately 5:30 pm on Christmas day. It is believed that the call was made to Riegel’s tenants who rented a farm from him in Union Gap, a town on the reservation. His tenants owed him $3000 in back rent.
Riegel lived with his girlfriend, Ladena Mann before he went missing. Mann claimed that the couple argued on Christmas day and Riegel left the home presumably to go see his tenants. She also claimed that Riegel assaulted her either on Christmas day or on January 4th before disappearing. When Mann tried to report this assault weeks later, she was unable because she had no injuries or proof of violence. Mann used Riegel’s money and EBT card after he disappeared as well as applied for her own EBT card claiming she still lived with Larry. Mann was charged with welfare fraud and perjury, but charges were dropped when she paid back the money and entered a diversion program. In one media interview she claimed that Larry is still alive and that he has “contacted several people” since going missing. She thinks Larry is residing in Idaho or Montana and has accused his family of knowing where he is. Ladena Mann is a person of interest in Larry’s disappearance as are his tenants, the last known people to have spoken to him. Riegel’s family is offering a $25,000 for information in the homicide investigation that leads to his remains. They have billboards all over the Yakima valley asking for information. Larry’s mother, aged 90, still drives around rural areas searching for his body.
Riegel is described as a white male with gray hair, a gray mustache, and hazel eyes. He is 6’2” and weights 200 lbs. He has surgical scars on his left knee and a prominent vertical scar on his neck from recent surgery to fix four broken vertebrae. He often wears eyeglasses and he has a limp in his left leg. He is also an alcoholic who frequented neighborhood bars. Yakima Police Department Yakima Police Department (509-576-6573) is investigating.
Donnie Sampson, 71, a well-known religious leader, had been serving for eight years on the Tribal Council’s Code of Ethics Committee when he disappeared in the fall of 1994 while hunting elk about 45 miles west of White Swan, near Mt. Adams. Donnie had a heart problem and had been prescribed nitroglycerin as a result. Right before his disappearance, he told his daughter that he (and the ethics committee) “was getting into something that’s going to make everybody mad.” He even went so far to tell her that he would be “making enemies” and that she and the community would hear about his findings soon enough. He had been investigating rumors of corruption in the tribal council and the housing authority before he went missing, but other committee members refused to elaborate on the matter.
Donnie’s truck was found Oct. 30, 1994, in the foothills of Mount Adams by volunteer searchers, but searchers found no trace of Sampson. His nitroglycerin, lunch, clothing and three rifles were found in his truck. A fourth rifle he left home with disappeared with him. Donnie’s children say tribal police has done little to investigate the disappearance, which they believe is a result of foul play. For example, his children were never interviewed and his truck was found by volunteers, not official search and rescue. Tribal authorities believe that the elderly Sampson simply got lost while hunting. There are no photos or description of Donnie Sampson available. He does not even have a Charley Project page. Tribal police are investigating.
Roland Jack Spencer III disappeared in late May 1984. He was 3 years old when last seen in the area of Knight Lane and Campbell Road in Wapato, although some sources say he was last seen in Toppenish. Roland is presumed to have been abducted by a non-family member, when he was in the yard. Curiously, Roland’s mother died under suspicious circumstances several years earlier (her case is featured in my previous write up). After her death Roland moved in with his great-aunt. Roland is described as a 3-year-old Native American male, with black hair and brown eyes. Roland has a scar on his abdomen. His nickname is Do-Boy and he may go by his middle name, Jack. Roland has some severe medical issues and disabilities. One website explains that Roland experienced brain damage in the womb which lead to his medical issues. Despite his hardships, he was a happy child who loved playing with cars. He is classified as mentally disabled, hard of hearing, and suffers from epilepsy. He takes medication to control his condition and may fall into a coma without it. He can only walk a few steps at a time and has very limited vocabulary and speaking skills. He was last seen wearing corduroy pants, a long sleeved red and white shirt, and tan boots. His was declared legally dead in 2000. Yakama tribal police are investigating, (509) 865-2933.
Murdered
Darryl Keith Celestine of Zillah, was murdered Sept. 25, 1988, in Wapato. He was found strangled outside his home. Darryl, a Yakama, was only 22 years old at the time. His murder is unsolved. Very little information is available.
What happened to these men? Why are so many people missing from such a sparsely populated area?

Tips on being homeless.

Some tips on being homeless because who know's when someone could use a survival tip or two:
1- Never, ever, ever borrow or accept money from anyone on the streets no matter how hard up you are. You will be owned if you do. 2- Save on Foods, Mc Donalds, Walmart, A & W & Tim Horton's all have the best Wi-fi connection. 3- Condense your life into one back pack. Simplify, simplify, simplify. This will save you mentally and physically in the end. 4- Bear spray. That is all. 5- Invest in a $10 shower vinyl Coleman pack. Stick it in a back pack and fill it up in rest stops. It's $13 dollars to shower in hotels or truck stops and that can add up very fast. 6- Find places to sleep that are dark and you can tuck yourself in 7- If you have to sleep under a bridge, tuck yourself up high and wear all black to hide yourself out from late night people sketching out or wanting to fight or looking for trouble. 8- There will always be good people who come around in spite of your situation. 9- Coleman shower pack, Truck stops, hotels & motels, Rec centers & campgrounds are good places to shower. Rivers are great for bathing. 10- If you have wheels, you are so blessed. 11- It is easier to get into a shelter if you have kids 12-Even though they say no food in your room in the shelter, some rules are meant to be broken. A back pack is great for snacks lol 13-Carry a concealed key knife- yes a key knife - easy to hide and you'll be thankful you have one. If you have a vehicle the best places to sleep are casino parking lots, walmart parking lots, safe feeling communities, hotel parking lots, service road truck line ups, conservatory places, river sides, crown land, ice shacks 16- A lot of people do not have your best intentions at heart so be careful what you're doing and who you take advice from when you are feeling low. 17. Remind yourself only YOU have the power to get out of the situation, 18- Most cities have community support centers and places to get food and counseling 19- The food bank line is hell. But there is some food at the end of those long awful lines. 20- The dollar store fucking rocks for little gadgets and nic-nacks if you need to set up camp somewhere 21- Try and pack a tent and find a spot you won't have to move often. Moving is so mentally draining and exhausting. 22- Don't stick around too long in one place 23- Don't buy weed off the streets. DON"T, DON"T DO IT. Don;t buy anything from anyone.. don't. 24- Don't tell anyone how vulnerable you are. People prey like motherfuckers. 25- Make up wipes work great for wiping your hands and face to freshen up. 26- Always have your toothbrush and paste with you. When you feel tired you can brush your teeth as a psychological hack to make you feel more awake to keep persevering. 27- If a street person asks you for water, it's usually to shoot up, not drink. Don't judge these poor hurting souls and save your drinking water. 28- empathize, empathize, empathize. If you are reactive to everyone and everything or are judgmental, you are hooped. 29- Always watch your back. Always. 30- Smash the tops of feet and gouge eyes if you ever get attacked and don't be afraid to fight back. 31- If you are so lucky, spend time in nature if you can 32- writing and books are a good escape and easy to pack in your bag 33-Learn to love the body you were born in real fast because doing hair and makeup ain't a thing. 34- There is a lot of free clothing that get's given out at shelters 35- Stick to yourself. Better chance at getting off the streets. 36- If you need to warm your shower pack up faster stick it under your floor heater if you have a car. 37- Get your hands on a sleeping bag and foil emergency blanket somehow 38-Always look for the beauty in the moment. Everything is art. Everything. 39-Mindset is key. Your body will always give up before your mind does. Careful what you feed your thoughts 40- Never sleep in truck stop areas. You will be meat. 41- Not all medical professionals and staff in shelters are leading you down the right path. Be choosy if you can. 42- Learn to think for yourself or else you're fucked. Intuition baby. Intuition. 43- Plug ins are found outside gas stations and fast food joints and in picnic parks to charge your phone. 44- Picking bottles will get you money. 45- Learn to wear clothing you can wake up and go to sleep in. Trust me. 46- The river valley is a good spot to hide and set up camp without hasstle for the most part. Again, don't stay in one place too long. In BC there are a lot of meth labs in forrest areas. some in alberta crown land as well. be careful. 47- Don't listen to your music or you can't hear what is coming behind you 48- Vodka helps, be mindful on how much you're consuming and if you drink too much you will be off your game to stick up for yourself if need be. 49- Shelters are sometimes are rougher than the streets but gain you access to other supports if you can get in. It is NOT EASY getting into a shelter. 50- Keep your head held high and don't give a fuck about the judgement you will receive. People will be judging no matter what you do, so fuck it. Keep going. Keep fighting the good fight. Your situation does not define you and people who judge you and look down on you DO NOT matter :)

Looking for most affordable, but fastest (for longevity) for a non-profit office

I've volunteered to build a PC for our community association office ( which only has one computer used by one administration lady). It doesn't need to be a super fast gaming PC, but they want it fast enough that it doesn't feel like it's crawling in 6 years (they don't have a lot of money and won't be able to replace this one for quite a while). The system they have now is absolutely ancient and will be heading for the recycle centre when I get the new system, so the user (who is an elderly lady) will probably be super impressed with whatever I give her, but I want to build something that will outlast her. :-) The problem is that I haven't built my own PC in about 6 years and really haven't kept up with the changes that have been happening with CPU/MB/etc, so when I was trying to piece together a system, I kind of felt like I've been out of the loop too long, so I thought I would pass my selections by you guys first for some feedback. Here is the list I've put together so far: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JPkzyk I've essentially just picked the cheapest parts from each category that has the best reviews.
  1. What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using. Basically, this will just be a system for spreadsheets, burning DVDs for archiving, and browsing websites, so don't need a lot of horsepower, but I need it to be quite versatile when it comes to upgrading it in the future if it feels like it's running slow, rather than replacing it. Maybe some graphics or video editing, but that would probably be the most demanding.
  2. What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes? Like I mentioned, this is a non-profit with not a lot of money, but we ran a casino night a while ago which garnered us some funds and would like to replace the office PC as it's getting so slow that nobody can use it (I'm talking "click to open a program and get a coffee" slow). They've told me to try to keep it around $800 (that's Canadian BTW, so that works out to about $600 US) with a monitor. I might be able to find a used, cheaper monitor on Kijiji, but the rest I'd like to buy new.
  3. When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy. There's really no rush, but they'd like to get it within a month or two. They'd like to see an estimate sooner so the bookkeeper knows what to expect.
  4. What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc) I can probably find new peripherals on my own for a good price, but for now we basically just need everything in the tower. Maybe a mouse/keyboard combo if anyone knows of a smoking deal?
  5. Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location? Alberta, Canada.
  6. If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated. Nothing really can be reused. The monitor is so bad that (and VGA) we're going to toss it, and the mouse, keyboard are probably still PS/2.
  7. Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU? Nope, don't need it for what she'll be doing. Maybe down the line if the system gets really old and slow.
  8. Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc) Just an SSD for performance, she doesn't need a lot of storage or RAID or anything excessive. I'm going to try to set up some cloud storage so all of our files are safe and easier to share.
  9. Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components? Full tower for options to upgrade.
  10. Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference? Yeah, we will need Windows 10 64 bit.
  11. Extra info or particulars: If I could get a MB with onboard video, that would help us reduce the cost so we don't need to buy a video card, but when I was pricing out the parts, a lot of the motherboards say "Depends on the CPU" so I'm not really sure if the MB I chose has onboard video even though it has an HDMI port.

Wrestling Observer Rewind ★ Feb. 1, 1999

Going through old issues of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter and posting highlights in my own words. For anyone interested, I highly recommend signing up for the actual site at f4wonline and checking out the full archives.
PREVIOUS YEARS ARCHIVE: 19911992199319941995199619971998
1-4-1999 1-11-1999 1-18-1999 1-25-1999
Posting this right at the start of OilMania seems like a bad idea but who knows, let's see how it goes!
  • Dave looks at business numbers for 1998 and needless to say, basically every record got destroyed. The 1998 numbers compared to 1997 are staggering. WWF live attendance increased more than 71% over the year before. TV ratings increased nearly 49%. PPV buyrates increased 67%. Over 33% of their live shows were legit sellouts (compared to only 16% in '97). WCW was the same story. 46% increase in attendance, 56% increase in ratings, 17% increase in buyrates, and 49% of its shows sold out. An estimated 3.85 million people attended WWF and WCW shows during 1998, generating about $78 million in gate revenue ($38m for WCW, $40m for WWF). Dave starts tossing in other numbers and percentages, accounting for ECW and other indies and whatnot. WWF did better numbers than WCW in every category throughout most of 1998. WCW peaked in March and has been on a steady decline ever since. Meanwhile, WWF peaked in December and still seem to be on the rise. There's a lot more detail in this but yanno....numbers. Meh.
  • AJPW and NJPW numbers are also covered, but in less detail. AJPW attendance was down slightly (10%) from last year, and both years are the lowest of the decade, so not good news there. For most of the year, they were having their lowest attendance numbers in company history, but the arrival of Vader seems to have given them a boost near the end of the year. TV ratings held steady and basically didn't change. And no matter what, AJPW's first ever Tokyo Dome show more than made up for any declining numbers by generating millions of much-needed dollars for the company. As for NJPW, attendance increased slightly (about 5%) but TV ratings dropped significantly (nearly 20%) which is obviously not great news.
  • Toshiaki Kawada won AJPW's Triple Crown title last week from Misawa but he also broke his right wrist and forearm during the match by hitting Misawa in the back of the head with a spinning backfist that hit so hard that it hurt the wrong guy. He finished the match, going another 15 minutes after. Three days after the match, Kawada underwent surgery and it's believed he'll be out until May (when AJPW has their 2nd ever Tokyo Dome show). Kawada will be vacating the title he just won and it's unclear what they will do next to crown a new champion. There's a lot of problems because they had months of booking planned already and now it all has to be scrapped and it throws plans for several upcoming major shows into chaos (man, I bet it sucked to be Misawa right now. At this moment, Baba is hospitalized and no one knows why, not even Misawa allegedly, and he's running the company while also having to deal with this shit. I can only imagine the stress that dude was dealing with).
WATCH: Toshiaki Kawada vs. Mitsuharu Misawa (injury happens at 12:50)
  • WWF's Royal Rumble is in the books. From an in-ring standpoint, aside from one match (Rock/Mankind), it wasn't great and shows the lack of depth WWF has when it comes to in-ring talent. But from a story and booking standpoint, the show opened up a lot of possible doors. It was sold out weeks in advance and it's likely going to do a huge buyrate if early projections are any indication. Some of the show (specifically Rock/Mankind) was brutally violent but aside from that, the show was actually somewhat toned down compared to recent Raws and PPVs. There's starting to be whispers of sponsors getting uncomfortable with the product so that's probably why.
  • Other notes from the show: Christian beat Jeff Hardy in a dark match. Too Much (Brian Christopher and Scott Taylor) also did a dark match job and Dave mentions that the plan to have them do a gay wedding angle at the February PPV has been scrapped, which is why they have been de-pushed on TV. Word is neither guy was exactly thrilled about doing it (we'd get Billy & Chuck a few years later). The announcers talked about how Mankind has never submitted in his entire career, which Dave points out is just patently ridiculous because he tapped out on WWF TV just a few months ago. Then they said the same thing about Billy Gunn later in the show, which was even more absurd. Mabel returned and will end up as part of Undertaker's group, which Dave is just THRILLED about. The finish of X-Pac/Gangrel was screwed up when referee Teddy Long counted 3 for a spot when he wasn't supposed to. The crowd chanted "you fucked up" at everybody as the match went to the planned finish a moment later. The Sable/Luna strap match ended the exact same way every strap match since the beginning of time has ended, with the heel dragging the face to each corner while, unbeknownst to them, the face is also touching each corner, and then the face manages to get the last one. Dave points out how that doesn't even make sense because the object is to drag your opponent to each corner, and every time they do this finish, the heel is the one pulling them, so that shouldn't count. But whatever. And the Rumble match was basically built around Vince and Austin. As far as Rumble matches go, it was probably the worst Rumble ever, but it at least had some stories going on within the context of the match.
  • Oh yeah. The Rock vs. Mankind match. For starters, Dave congratulates Observer reader Bryan Alvarez, who called the Observer hotline and predicted the finish (playing the audio of Mankind saying "I quit" from the previous week's Raw). The match was going along fine and then Rock handcuffed Mankind's hands behind his back. And from there, it got sick. Eleven full-force brutal chairshots to the head. Beyond overkill. Dave says it didn't remotely qualify as entertainment and he's worried that Mick Foley is going to end up with no brain cells left and says 90% of the calls they got on the Observer hotline were people pissed at Foley for going along with that. Dave pretty much found the whole thing sickening and hopes we never see anything like it again (yeah, needless to say this one is famous for pretty much all the wrong reasons).
WATCH: Mankind vs. The Rock - Royal Rumble 1999
  • Raw's ratings streak over Nitro is now 13 weeks in a row and counting and the gap between the two shows seems to be getting wider every week, although this week it was actually kinda close. WCW experimented with doing the main event match at the end of the first hour to try to prevent people from switching over to Raw when it started and it seemed to work a little bit, although not enough to matter. Raw still demolished them.
  • Still no real details on the condition of Giant Baba. Every year, AJPW does a big birthday celebration show for him, and this year, he obviously wasn't able to attend as he's still hospitalized. But word is they brought him a tape of the show and he watched it with a big smile on his face. There's hope that Baba will be back before AJPW's Tokyo Dome show in May. Those close to him aren't saying what exactly is wrong but are telling people that it's not that serious (spoiler alert: we'll be covering his obituary in the next issue).
  • Scott Norton is said to be really upset about how his IWGP title reign went down. He was apparently told it was going to be a year-long title reign, but it ended up getting cut short (about 4 months) and he lost the title to Keiji Muto at the Jan. 4th show. Norton is telling people he's finished with NJPW (naaaah).
  • Still a lot of news coverage of the Hashimoto/Ogawa match from the Jan. 4th show. It's looking more and more as if it was a real shoot and some are saying Hashimoto was aware beforehand that it was going to be a 100% shoot match. There have been claims that he covered himself in oil before the match so he could slip out of Ogawa's holds and Dave says looking at the match, that does appear to be true. But at this point, the consensus is that the match was a shoot, not an angle. Whether Hashimoto was aware of it being a shoot from the beginning is still somewhat debated.
  • Jesse Ventura was recently sworn in as the governor of Minnesota and it's already going poorly. His appointee to head the Dept. of Natural Resources resigned 6 days after starting the job when it was discovered he had several fines and citations for hunting and fishing violations. Fun side note: the judge who swore Ventura in as governor is the same judge who ruled in his favor in his lawsuit against WWF several years ago.
  • Tajiri vs. Super Crazy matches have reportedly been stealing the show at all of the recent ECW house shows and it's expected that they will face each other on next month's Living Dangerously PPV (yup).
  • Dawn Marie is getting breast implants this week. ECW is paying for it since they basically asked her to do it.
  • Speaking of ECW women, they did a backstage interview with Tammy Sytch and Chris Candido, which is the first time they've really shown Tammy's face up close on TV in awhile and Dave says she looks like she hasn't slept in months (yeah she was really starting to look haggard during this time. Drugs are bad, mmm'kay).
  • There have been rumors that Sid Vicious no-showed a recent ECW house show but for once, it's not true. He actually wasn't booked. "He will no-show at some point soon, it just hasn't happened yet," Dave says.
  • WCW is almost certainly going to do a match at SuperBrawl that will lead to Rey Mysterio being unmasked. Bischoff tried to get Mysterio to unmask in 1997 and it turned into a huge issue, with Mysterio almost quitting the company and Bischoff threatening to sue him for breach of contract. But this time, Mysterio is said to be okay with it, since Kevin Nash is booking everything now and Mysterio says he trusts Nash to do right by him (Mysterio has since completely gone the other way on this and says he regrets ever doing it).
  • Wrestling media for the week: DDP appearing on Regis & Kathy Lee. Goldberg appearing on Jay Leno. Maxim, Forbes, and Playboy all doing magazine stories on wrestling. Larry Zbyszko appeared on MTV with Rob Zombie, leading to Zbyszko saying the last time he worked with a zombie was when he wrestled Dusty Rhodes, which Dave thinks was hilarious. A bunch of other WCW guys appeared on the MTV show also.
  • Chris Jericho's sidekick Ralphus is actually one of the ring crew guys who drives the ring from city to city. He gets paid $200 per appearance for being on TV every week.
  • Stu and Helen Hart won't be losing the Hart family home after all. Whatever shit was going on with that has been settled, although they may still have to sell some of the land near the house that they own.
  • A big group of school teachers and the school board in Winnipeg are still fighting to get WWF's Raw pushed back to a later airtime so kids won't watch it. Dave points out that kids still know to use VCRs. WWF of course tries to push the narrative that they are for adults and that their prime audience is the 18-34 demographic. Dave calls bullshit and says that the highest rated age group for Raw is actually teenagers and young children aren't that far behind. Obviously, that is the parent's responsibility, not WWFs, but regardless, the idea that kids aren't watching WWF is ludicrous because they're actually watching it more than any other demographic.
  • When reviewing Raw, Dave goes on a rant about WWF bringing Mabel back and putting him with Undertaker's group. He talks about how WWF basically buried Vader due to his size, despite him being 10x the worker Mabel ever was and in much better shape. He was also a big star and doesn't have a reputation of carelessly injuring people that Mabel apparently has. "They should have brought back Sid or Ahmed Johnson way before this clown," Dave says. Tell us how you really feel. Besides, Dave wonders, when they're just weeks away from bringing in The Giant from WCW, what purpose does Mabel serve?
  • On Raw, Mankind challenged the Rock to an empty arena match to take place during halftime of the Super Bowl. Dave thinks whoever came up with the idea deserves a raise because it's a pretty brilliant idea.
  • Remember how WWF bought into that casino in Las Vegas and planned to turn it into a WWF Hotel & Casino? Well now they plan to tear down the whole building and rebuild. They want to be able to do live shows from there, but the current building isn't structured in a way that would allow them to set it up as an arena to do shows.
  • WWF's upcoming Super Bowl commercial will reportedly be called "A Day At The Office" and will feature a bunch of wrestlers and stunt men and explosions and whatnot during a tour of WWF's Titan Towers. Dave recaps the entire commercial, frame by frame exactly, even though it hasn't aired yet. But he's got the scoop on what it will be. Anyway, WWF reportedly paid $1.6 million for the 30-second ad and it will air in the 3rd quarter. The next day, they plan to launch a multi-million dollar ad campaign, mostly to shit-talk all the critics of their product.
  • Lance Storm writes in a letter to the Observer and Dave responds, so let's watch these 2 notorious goofballs totally not take wrestling too seriously:
Just a small complaint. When writing match results, do you actually watch the match or are you retelling someone else's account. Perhaps I'm a bit too detail conscience or even a bit anal retentive, but I find it frustrating when match details are incorrect. Your recent account of my PPV match with Rob Van Dam strongly resembled our match, but had a couple of moves credited to the wrong person and a false finish out of order or wrong. Maybe these details are insignificant, but in a newsletter that voices its opinions as absolute, it would be nice if the actual facts were as well.
Lance Storm Calgary, Alberta
DM: I watch every PPV match. In doing match write-ups, the idea is not to list moves or spots in order but attempt to tell the story of the match listing things that stick out after it's over and thus had impact, and not necessarily to place those spots in their specific order. If a spot is credited to the wrong person, that's an unforgivable mistake.
  • Other letters this week: people pissed at Mick Foley for likely allowing himself to get brain damage in the Rumble match, someone pissed that Steve Austin won wrestler of the year ("He only has 5 moves, and flipping off Vince McMahon is one of them"), someone comparing Tony Schiavone following Eric Bischoff's orders to bury Mick Foley to the Nazi's following Hitler's orders, and more.
MONDAY: the death of Giant Baba, Bischoff and McMahon bickering in the media, Empty Arena match, and more...

[HM] Trip To The Future

TRIP TO THE FUTURE
The year was 1963. His name was Mick O’Malley. As the name suggests, Mick was about as Irish as they come, minus the leprechaun costume and pot of gold. A natural lover of beer, he was the brewmaster in his small town of Pueblo, New Mexico. The only thing he was really known for, aside from stealing paper from the copy machine at work, was being a small-craft brewer before it was cool.
But Mick had ambitions beyond your average beer maker. It all started with a trip to the local Native American reservation. What was meant to be a quick trip to get 19 cartons of tax-free cigarettes ended up changing his life forever.
The natives were particularly fond of a rare type of cactus that only grew in a very small region of White Sands nearby. The cactus, locally known as “najawakka” was being used for religious rituals. It was unknown to scientists as the natives were careful in protecting its existence from researchers, botanists, and wooks. This struck Mick quite the wrong way, as for years he’d been looking for a new plant to brew his own signature beer from. “What better plant to use than a sacred one even science doesn’t know about? This is kickass!” and he immediately popped a stiffy. He asked the locals if he could bring home one of the cacti. At first they refused, but after promising to buy another 37 cartons of cigarettes, even the expired ones at full price, the leader reluctantly handed one over. As the plant passed their hands, the leader warned Mick, “this shit will melt your mind like a goddamn lava lamp, bro.”
“Yeah, whatever man,” Mick replied.
As the mysterious, dumbass white man left, a young native asked the leader, “why would you give it to him?”
The leader replied, “those cancer sticks will probably kill him before the plant does, so who cares?”
Eager to brew the ultimate beer from this mysterious plant, Mick went straight to work on what is arguably the dumbest idea anyone could think of since the Romans decided to build an entire village next to a fucking volcano. But the consequences weren’t quite as disastrous to anyone, anyone but Mick.
After a painstaking two long weeks of waiting and waiting for the beer brew, the 14th day arrived, and Mick was as eager to try it as a hawk is to eat fresh killed sheep.
Mick poured himself his first, and only, glass of his new invention. With a single sip, his mind began to spin. Within a few minutes he was already on a magical mystery bus tour through the seventh circle of hell.
As he was about to fall and die in a fiery satanic inferno, dead Judy Garland arrived on the back of a dinosaur, swept Mick off his feet, and rode him to safety while simultaneously taking headshots at mutant cobras with a bow and arrow. Mick was awestruck. But just as they were about to reach the end of the rainbow and return him to his normal life, he was struck by lighting and bitten by an anaconda at the same time. He awoke suddenly, back on his couch, but his home looked quite different.
It was as if nobody had been there in ages. The windows were shattered, the roof was caving in, and his prized life-sized statue of Duke Ellington was missing. “Where am I? What is this?” Mick asked himself.
Suddenly, a ghostly giant lizard appeared before him.
“Mick,” the grotesque lizard said, “I am Señorito Lizard, king of the mutant reptiles, friend of the ancient forest avatars.”
“What’s going on?!” Mick asked.
“Quite the pickle, you are in. That beer you brewed out of the sacred cactus was so powerful, it caused you to trip 57 years into the future! It is 2020, the world is woke and everyone speaks Yeet.”
“How do I get back??!” Mick worriedly replied.
“Mick, listen closely—eat the same cactus, you must, to trip back to 1963.”
“Fuck!” Mick shouted. “I missed my Grateful Dead concert, any chance you know when their next show is?!”
“Sorry to tell you, but Jerry Garcia is dead, Mick. Dead, and not quite grateful about it either.”
“Janis Joplin?”
“Also dead.”
“The Beatles?”
“It’s been 57 years Mick, snap out of it and find the goddamn cactus, you must!”
And in that moment, Mick knew the lizard emperor was right. His truck was still in the driveway, dilapidated and abandoned. So he had no choice but to walk there by foot, for he knew he would stand out with his retro attire.
After 19 hours of walking, Mick arrived back at the reservation. But where the ceremonial circle of cactus eating natives once sat, stood a gaudy temple-like casino.
Mick stepped inside and asked, “I need to see your leader! I don’t know his name, but 57 years ago he gave me a cactus and—“
“Ah, so you’re that beer guy, huh?” the guard asked.
“Yes! How do you kno—“
“You were the talk of the town since you left. Everyone made bets about how you’d die. Some thought you’d beat your own face in with a garden gnome, others suggested you’d simply jump off a cliff using a Super Soaker as a jetpack. So, whatever did happen to you, man?”
“I tripped 57 years into the future!” Mick exclaimed.
“Fuck, that means I lost $14. Whatever. So, what do you want?” the guard asked.
“I need to talk to the man who gave me the cactus, the lizard kremlin said I must!”
“Ah, that sucks man, sorry to say but he’s dead. You see, in 2005 he was protesting the government and pissing on the iron statue of a Confederate war criminal. Lightning struck the monument, splitting him in half from the shaft to the head. It was a nasty sight, he even became a meme for like three weeks. Republicans threw a massive banger in the capital to celebrate, Ted Cruz was doing karaoke to Cher and McCain even whipped his junk out in front of the head of the NRA, yelling, ‘I’m gonna shoot!’” the guard exclaimed.
“That’s not surprising,” Mick replied, “well, do you know how I can find the cactus?”
“You’re shit out of luck there too, man. Exxon built an oil pipeline straight through the reservation. There was a massive spill in the ‘80s and it killed off every last najawakka cactus we had. They’re extinct bro, you’ll have better luck finding a hay in a needlestack.”
“You mean a needle in a haystack?”
“No, this is slightly more painful, actually. And nobody would bother to do it—in other words, give up, man. The future is great, we have emojis and pot is legal, what more do you want?”
“Fuck!” Mick exclaimed again, “I want to go home.”
Feeling defeated, Mick sluggishly dragged himself out of the casino. As he was ready to give up hope, the Lizard lord appeared before him again.”
“Why didn’t you tell me the cactus was gone? And the chief was dead? Why did you mislead me?”
“Shhhh, come come now, Mick. I have something I need to show you.”
The lizard wizard opened a portal and transported Mick to a gift shop in Alberta, Canada.
“What are we doing here?” Mick asked.
“Do you remember the mug you drank your beer from, Mick?”
“Yes! I do—it was my prized possession! It said “World’s Worst Dad,” my bastard kid sent it to me after I abandoned him 9 years earlier. I sent him a birthday card and he replied with a mug to remind me how much of a disappointment I was!”
“The only one still in existence, believe it or not. It’s worth a fortune too, but nobody knows it’s here. Buried in a box somewhere under a stack of vintage Playboy magazines and Soviet propoganda, lies your mug. Within that mug is a slight residue of the beer you drank. Consume the residue, you must, to trip back.”
“But what about—“ Mick turned around, but the lizard god was gone. And so he went, storming into the store with a dick full of confidence. He headed towards the magazine section and began digging through the boxes for his prized mug. Hours went by, but finally, he landed on his mug. Deciding it wasn’t a bad idea to swipe the magazines either, as it had been over half a century since he relieved himself.
He left the store, walked into a gas station bathroom with the magazines, spent a rough 7 hours in there before the owner busted the door in, thinking he’d died in there, only to see a burnt out hippie rubbing one out.
Despite not having finished, he saw the horrified look of the graveyard shift worker and the line of 17 people lined up, waiting to drop their deuces, he sprinted past them and into the woods with his mug. He sat beneath a tree, lifted his mug, and began to lick the inside of it, hoping to contract the cacti beer residue again.
An hour passed, and nothing had happened. The lizard warlord appeared again.
“It’s not working!” Mick exclaimed.
“The residue is at the bottom, you dumb shit. Fill the mug with water, dissolve the residue, and that should do the trick. There’s a river nearby, you can get your water from there.”
Mick bounced up, ran to the river, filled his mug, and took a nice, long gulp.
And so it began, once again. The spinning, the whirling, the pain and suffering. Judy Garland appeared once again on her dinosaur, lifted him from his spiraling death pit, and carried him to the end of the rainbow. And in that instant, he fell off the horse, landed on his head, and awoke in his old living room, back in 1963.
“Finally,” Mick said to himself, relieved that he had accomplished his time travel. “I need a cancer stick and a beer!”
Mick grabbed a Marlboro Red and a jug of fresh brewed beer. He poured a glass, took a drag, and gulped down the entire glass. Looking down as he took his second drag, he realized he had just made a grave mistake. The beer he just poured, was once again, the time-warping cactus drink that had started his whole ordeal.
“ohhhh… fuck.” he said. And in that instant, the world warped around him, the third trip began, and Judy Garland appeared again on her dinosaur.
“Fuck outta here, Judy!” he yelled. Insulted, Judy’s dinosaur head-butted Mick off his feet and fired him off into the abyss.
When the trip ended, Mick was floating in space. Realizing that this time he drank an entire pint instead of just a sip, 937 billion years had passed. The sun burned out, exploded, engulfed the solar system, and collapsed into a supermassive black hole. As the gravity sucked him in, he tried to take a final breath. But seeing that this was space, and there was no air, he gagged, choked, and died.
The lizard sorcerer appeared once more, laughing hysterically. With a wink and a nod, he landed on Mick’s body, and like every 9-year-old playing Halo on Xbox, double-tapped X over his corpse. “Killshot!” the lizard oligarch shouted, “new high score!”
The end.

[Unresolved Disappearance] William Lynskey of Whistler, BC missing now for almost a year

William Lynskey was last seen in the evening on April 11th, 2017 at his Vancouver apartment, having moved away from his hometown, Whistler, to attend BCIT (British Columbia Institute of Technology) in metro Vancouver. He was about six weeks away from graduating his computer programming class there. Friends and family, who often refer to him as Willy, never heard him say he was too stressed out by school or from whatever else may be in the picture.
The next day on April 12th, 2017 around 7PM, CCTV in Vancouver captured Willy boarding a Greyhound bus to Edmonton, Alberta where he has had zero previous connections to. Now the next date varies article to article but from reading all 5 available and understanding how long it would take a greyhound bus to get from BC to AB, Willy was seen checking in to Century Casino and Hotel on April 13th from a surveillance video.
And on April 14th, 2017, his cell phone had pinged in Calgary which is 300kms south of Edmonton. This was the last time Willy's phone was ever used. His social media pages and bank accounts also remain untouched since the beginning of his disappearance. This cell phone ping was enough for the Vancouver Police to consider him safe and closed their missing persons file on William Lynskey. Thankfully, Whistler RCMP opened their own case in May 2017.
In November 2017, Willy's ID was found by a maintenance worker in the cushions of a couch at Cascade Plaza mall in Banff, Alberta, which is only 130km west of Calgary, easily attainable by hitch hiking in my opinion. This find was reported to a Facebook page dedicated to tips on this case and it's unclear whether this information was posted in November 2017 and only made aware to RCMP this month, March 2018 or if the information was held by the maintenance/janitorial persons and only posted this month. This led to Willy's mother flying out to Banff to look for her son, disperse posters, and speak to various people throughout the town she said reminded her of Whistler. With it came another piece of the puzzle.
Employees from the Food Resource Center confirm they had spoken to Willy on approximately September 7th, 2017 and provided him with donated clothing, "...which included a brown checkered shirt, a puffy vest with horizontal stitching, a larger sized Osprey backpack and a pair of newer Timberland boots."
It has now been nearly seven months since there's been any confirmation of Willy's well-being since it's unknown when his ID was actually placed in the mall couch. This is my first write-up so I apologize if my writing is rusty or if it sounds odd but ever since finding out about this case, it feels close to me considering I've spent time in all of the places he's been spotted or spent time and I really want this to get out to more Canadians. I've seen some people speculate that it could be late-onset schizophrenia and or depression. Do you think it could be something darker, possibly crime related?

TALES FROM THE IN-LAWS

Thank God I kept a journal, I now have proof that my in-laws are nuts. For the record, I have a terrible memory and therefore I forgot about how crazy they are, which is why they were in my life for far too long. This is also my first post. I just joined Reddit today.
Prior to my relationship with DH – I know my MIL practically forced DH to be in dance classes when he was a child, as she was trying to live vicariously through him as she had a terrible childhood. One time she grabbed his dance instructor by the neck and pinned her up against a wall. She punched DH in the face one time and broke his nose. He’s had problems with his nose ever since with just not being able to breathe properly, etc. and she’s chased him around the house with a sledgehammer and broke holes in the walls.
June 2010 – DH lived in Ottawa (3.5 hours away) and worked 5 days on, 5 days off so he’d come back to our hometown on his days off. We would normally stay at his parent’s house, but on one occasion his brother (who is 8 years older, a crackhead alcoholic, been arrested hundreds of times, has 3 kids who he’s never supported either mentally or financially, never paid into taxes, etc.) came home late at night, not sober, and was mad that DH and I had set up a nice bed in one of the bedrooms, which was where he normally slept on a cot, but DH had moved the cot to the other bedroom. His brother kicked down a door, poured pop all over DH, punched DH in the face, smashed beer bottles and a light, and when the in-laws came down they blamed DH and said that I wasn’t allowed to be there, even though previously she’d said I was allowed. So we went back to my house and the next day my stepmom went out and bought a futon so DH could stay there when he was in town (she wouldn’t let us stay in the same room lol).
March 2011 – My mom was unable to keep her Himalayan kitten due to moving and her new roommate being allergic, and DH knew his mom always wanted a Himalayan so he called his mom and told her about the kitten, and she told him to tell my mom to give her a call. My mom calls her, and MIL says “oh, I want a boy!” even though she already knew it was a girl. This was also their first interaction with one another.
August 2011 – My brother stopped by my in-laws house (he and DH were best friends so he was friends with my in-laws) and my MIL told my brother that if he didn’t take the two pieces of art that I had left there that she was going to donate them. Even though weeks prior she had asked me a few weeks prior if I wanted to keep them, because she liked them and wanted to hang them up. I had told her that they were a gift, but she could hang them for now, but I’d want them back in the future.
May 2012 – Went to dinner with my in-laws and my MIL complained about everything, including her “spicy” vanilla milkshake. She didn’t eat her hamburger at all. This wasn't the first, or last, time that she complained about a meal at a restaurant and refused to eat.
June 2012 – We were preparing to move to Pakistan so we decided it would be best to leave our two cats and our dog with the in-laws, as we didn’t know what it was going to be like overseas (we had little information given to us) and we were worried. We brought the animals to my in-laws, and the following occurred.
We had two cats. An orange tabby named Fawkes, and a Tonkinese named Cougar. Upon arrival at the in-laws, Cougar peed on the bed and on a blanket. Cougar was like 11 or 12, we had adopted him from a friend who was moving cross-country. MIL said something along the lines of “you know what happened to the other animals when they pissed me off” (DH told me that she tried to choke them and gave them away). MIL also said she didn’t want Cougar but wanted Fawkes. We then mentioned the idea of maybe taking our dog with us overseas, and his parents kept saying not to, and that she was better off staying with them. Later on, MIL says “you don’t expect to take them back do you?”
Weeks later…
Arrived at our in-laws house and DH opened the door and Cougar got out, so I started panicking because they are indoor cats. FIL says “oh don’t worry, he loves going outside”. We specifically told them not to let the cats outside. Later on MIL asks if I’m okay with leaving the animals with her and I told her no, they haven’t listened to any of our instructions thus far and just got a new kitten. Then we are out in the backyard, and DH was ashing his cigarette on the deck and MIL asked him not to because she’d have to wash the deck, so he moved closer to the ashtray. She out of nowhere flips out and storms off inside, slamming the doors behind her. I went in and knocked on the door to MIL’s room, she told me to fuck off but opened it anyway. I told her that DH wanted to leave (keep in mind we are moving to Pakistan very soon) and she says “good, leave, fuck off, and take the animals with you!” then slammed the door in my face.
July 2012 – MIL calls to say that she’s booking a vet appointment for Cougar because he continues to pee all over the place. They had to buy a new couch because of it. She also told us that she bought some pills recommended by PetSmart to give to our dog, so she didn’t kill their grass when she peed.
Later on…
We called the vet after the appointment because the in-laws couldn’t answer any of our questions about what happened at the appointment. Apparently Cougar has bladder stones and it’s going to cost $1500 for surgery but this will stop him from peeing everywhere.
August 2012 – (We are now living in Pakistan) DH told my in-laws that I was now worried about our future children being around them, if they can’t even listen to simple instructions regarding animals. FIL got mad and I had to apologize.
In-laws mentioned that if they were to go away, they’d take our dog to their friend’s house, who lives in the country and has an unfenced yard. I said no. “Oh, but he’s a nice guy and we trust him!”
Paid the $1500 for surgery and Cougar is still peeing everywhere. I knew it wouldn’t work, as he had been peeing everywhere when we first got him also, but trained him not to and he eventually stopped. DH also bought his mom a new duvet because Cougar had ruined hers.
They went through all the bags of kitty litter that we had bought them, and we bought them 6 months’ worth. Instead of scooping the poop out, they just dumped the whole entire litter box out at the end of every day.
April 2013 – My brother got arrested (he’s a good kid so this came as a complete shock) and I wanted to go home to Canada. DH told MIL that I might be coming home and she told DH that Cougar passed away MONTHS AGO. DH felt like something was wrong, so he told MIL “I feel like something’s wrong, is there anything you want to tell me?” she said no. “How’s Cougar?” “Oh Cougar’s fine, he just doesn’t do much.” “DH: “He’s dead isn’t he?” MIL: “No!” DH: “tell me the truth!” MIL: “Ok he’s dead”. Also realized that our dog (German shepherd) isn’t listening very well and that’s because they aren’t stern or persistent with her.
August 2013 – We flew our dog to Pakistan only to discover that she was severely overweight. When we left her, she was 80lbs. When we got her back, she was 130lbs. Thanks to my in-laws. DH was so mad. When we got home from picking her up at the airport, he called MIL and gave her a blast of shit. He told her that he felt “used” because he’d been paying for everything, expecting to get the same dog back. But she legit was nothing like she once was. She had trouble climbing stairs, running, walking even. He was mad that his parents didn’t tell him that anything was wrong, and he had even bought his mom a trip to Vancouver so she could visit DH’s half-brother and half-sister (two of her kids from a previous relationship). MIL kept saying “oh but she’s (dog) so beautiful!” and trying to downplay the whole thing, and then “oh you would’ve been really mad if you seen her a few weeks ago, she was huge!” WTF. And she kept telling DH that she didn’t think the dog was fat and she didn’t notice. She kept saying “I don’t know what to say”. MIL admitted that our dog was getting fed twice a day, plus biscuits from them and the neighbours, was getting table scraps, potato chips, whatever, and may have gotten into the cat food. We had given them a baby gate that we had cut a hole in, to keep our dog out of the “cat room” at our house. So we asked them why hadn’t they used it, and they claimed to have never been given it. DH had even offered to install it, and FIL had said no.
June 2014 – We went home to Canada and DH took his mom shopping and must’ve spent at least $1000 on her. We asked her if she was enjoying the new stuff DH bought her and she stated “oh it’s just cheap stuff anyway” and that she realized she didn’t like it and had given it away. She also never said thank you when he originally bought her the clothes. RAGE. She asked DH to buy her a $700 chandelier even though she had $3000 in her bank account and can afford to bail DH’s brother out all the time and buy him cigarettes and give him money for alcohol/drugs/whatever he needs.
May 2015 – We went on our house hunting trip and the in-laws came with us, since we decided it was a good idea (what was I thinking) that they come and live with us in Alberta, to get away from their crazy son who they are enabling. So we are on this house hunting trip and MIL keeps saying “I get a room!” but she was insinuating that she was going to be locked away in a basement room, but no, the basement has a full living room, bathroom, and 3 bedrooms (which they utilized two of when they were here). She kept saying that if she just wanted a room, she’d move out on her own. Apparently the tension was thick. Why did we continue to go through with it? It was doomed from the start. And there were houses that we’d arrive at, and MIL wouldn’t even get out of the car. Mind you, DH and I were buying this house, the in-laws were not contributing money towards it. DH had a stern conversation with MIL that he had embarrassed her in front of the realtor, and that she can’t act like this in a small town. Then FIL said that he could send us money each month if we needed help, and we told them no, if you don’t plan on living with us, then we will just buy a smaller house. We can afford it, but we need to purchase appropriately. But the whole house hunting trip was an absolute nightmare. We were focused on trying to buy a house, but MIL was concerned about going to Walmart (she went 5 times in a week) and to the casino (twice).
August 2015 – The in-laws FINALLY put their house on the market after knowing they would be moving for several months. They kept telling us “not to worry” because it’d sell in no time.
December 2015 – The in-laws FINALLY sold their house. And moved in with us. I asked my MIL how she liked her new bedroom… her reply: “it’s a room!” after I had cleaned it and made it all nice and presentable. I then went to the grocery store, came back and MIL asks if I got orange juice. I said no. “Well I need orange juice. I drink it every morning. Helps with my bowels.” They kept complaining that the house was too cold (it was set to 21 Celsius, 69.8 F) so I turned it up to 23 C, 73.4 F. It was too hot for DH and I, so we had to open our window (in the middle of December in northern Alberta) and the window froze open and had icicles on the inside, so we told them this and FIL goes “no worries” which is a typical response from him, along with “all good!”
We took the in-laws to the best restaurant in town, where everything is made from scratch and fresh, and the menu changes daily depending on what’s in season or in stock at the grocery store, and MIL complained the entire time and didn’t eat her meal, and FIL complained a bit too.
MIL tells me that if she ever has an issue with me, she will tell me straight up.
Their shipment arrives, and we are unloading it. I see Fawkes on top of a piece of furniture, so I take him off. MIL tells FIL that she doesn’t like this (why? I don’t know) and DH overhears that conversation. Then DH tells me that his parents think I’m not friendly. We have a family meeting. I somehow found out that MIL had a talk with her MIL, and said that she would never get along with me, I confront her about this, and she denies it. DH stuck up for me and confirmed that this conversation had in fact happened. I confronted MIL about the cat situation, when we left them with them and how they didn’t listen to any of our instructions. MIL starts going on about how Fawkes is her cat. I then said “tell me what really happened to Cougar” (they’d previously said he just died) and she then says “we gave him away!” At this point I got up, pretty much said to DH “I told you so!” and left the room. Nobody bothered to come after me. I went back. I told them that giving him away wasn’t their decision to make, we could’ve shipped him to Pakistan, I could’ve given him to my sister or another family member, there were many options. I told MIL that she was a liar and she starts dancing around saying “oh I’m a liar!” They never apologized for anything.
January 2016 – I am babysitting a 2 year old boy for a friend, and my friend was due to pick her son up at 5:30. I had given him some snacks, but I didn’t feed him dinner because she was coming at 5:30 and I didn’t know what her dinner plans were, and she didn’t tell me to feed him dinner. My MIL got mad at me because I was eating dinner in front of the 2 year old (I had to go to soccer that night, so I had to eat then). I sent a text to my friend to see if she wanted me to feed her son, just to get MIL off my back. She kept going on. FIL pipes up to say that I sent a text and we are awaiting a response. She then proceeds to start swearing and yelling at FIL in front of the 2 year old, tells FIL to get his “fucking hands off her”, shoved FIL, made a fist like she was going to punch him, and stormed off downstairs. So it’s wrong of me to eat dinner in front of a 2 year old, but she can act like a complete fucking psycho?
April 2016 – Our dog was getting sick a lot and I asked if everyone in the house (in-laws and we also had a roommate who had a puppy) to stop feeding our dog ANYTHING, period. I needed to start tracking what she was eating to find out what was making her sick. She began getting better once I told everyone to stop feeding her things. One day at dinner, MIL gets out an ice cream sandwich and right at the dinner table, in front of everyone, goes to let our dog lick the ice cream sandwich. DH jumped up so fast and pushed it away from our dog. MIL goes “I was only going to let her have a lick” and DH says “the whole thing was in her mouth!” It was also chocolate. And MIL didn’t believe DH when he told her it was chocolate… until she tasted it. She then announces that our dog loves cheesies.
July 2016 – I'm pregnant and due in December. MIL tells me that I need to hurry up and have this baby because it’s affecting her too. Apparently she’s sensitive to smells these days.
August 2016 – We did a road trip to British Columbia with the in-laws. We stopped at many places on the way, and eventually left them in Vancouver so they could spend time with MIL’s daughter (DH’s half-sister). DH and I continued on to Victoria to visit our friends. When it was time for the in-laws to come to Victoria, MIL was super awkward and just sat in the backyard away from everyone.
We went to breakfast with the in-laws and MIL commented on how thin the pregnant waitress was and that you wouldn’t know she was pregnant until she turned around, and DH said “well (my name) is like that too” and MIL said “no she’s not, she’s wider in the hips” blah blah blah.
We were having a yard sale and MIL was having a meltdown because she has separation anxiety and asked if I wanted some of the belongings that she had intended to sell. I said no, I have enough junk of my own, and she had a fit because I don’t like anything that she likes. DH stuck up for me and said it was perfectly fine that we have different tastes/likes. And no, she did not assist with the yard sale.
October 2016 – MIL came and woke me up to see when we were going to leave for the craft show. I told her that I just needed to sleep a bit longer and she said she’d start to get ready. I couldn’t fall back asleep, so I went downstairs to hang out with the in-laws. I mentioned that the one lady I was meant to meet at the craft show wasn’t going to be there, so MIL says “we don’t have to go anymore?” and I asked her if she didn’t want to go, and she said no. So why did she wake me up to go???
November 2016 – My in-laws cat began scratching our leather couch set that we had bought when we first moved into the house, so it was probably only a year old, maybe. I asked the in-laws to start keeping the basement door closed so that the cat couldn’t come upstairs. They live downstairs, it’s where they sleep and watch TV. We live in a raised bungalow, so it’s not a typical dark basement. The windows are above ground, so it’s actually bright and nice down there, like any other house. And they are down there unless they’re using the kitchen, so I honestly see no reason why they can’t just leave the basement door closed so that the cat won’t ruin our belongings. When I went and asked my in-laws to keep the cat downstairs, MIL yells at FIL “I told you so [FIL’s name]!” A few days went by, they were keeping her downstairs, but then I’d show up at the house earlier than expected and the cat would be upstairs and they’d practically come running up to grab her. They literally got rid of my cat because it was peeing in their house, yet their cat is scratching up my furniture, and I’m not asking them to get rid of the cat, I’m only asking that they keep the cat downstairs. DH starts asking me what we are going to do about the two dining chairs that are currently in the garage. I told him that he said I could keep them there, as we don’t need them on a day to day basis in the kitchen. I suggested that if he had an issue with them in the garage, we could put them under the stairs, and that the garage needs to get organized anyway. Out of nowhere, MIL yells up from the basement “don’t worry about the dining set because I’m sick of this shit and we are moving out!” They then ran off to Bingo (which they basically went to 6 days a week for the first several months of living with us, and god only knows how much money they spent at Bingo while they lived with us).
Of course they never apologized for the cat scratching up our leather furniture.
DH also got upset because he had hoped that his parents living with us would give him the relationship that he had always hoped to have with his father and that his parents always favoured his brother over him.
The in-laws were ignoring us after the fight where MIL announced she was moving out. FIL walked outside one night when DH was brushing the dog, and said “how’s it going” to FIL who responded with “good”. DH asks “how was your day today?” and FIL says “great”. Then the next day DH comes home and FIL opens the basement door a tiny crack to let our dog out, and DH marches down and says to his parents “well that was the most awkward thing ever. Hello to you too!” Then his parents started talking to him, and FIL asked if we still had the microwave that was in the garage (we didn’t) and if he could buy the TV that we had in the garage. DH said that they could have it. They also announced that they’d found an apartment and DH got mad because there was no discussion at all about this.
DH and I are at breakfast one morning and he tells me some things. MIL has always gone on about how she gets along so well with her MIL and mentioned that she wanted to go home for Christmas (and would therefore miss the birth of our child) because she wanted to see her MIL, and how she’d spent every Christmas (except for the previous one) with her MIL. DH tells me that his mom hated his grandma up until recently and that every Christmas was a constant battle because his mom didn’t want to go to his grandma’s house and that he and his brother would sit in the car for hours while his parents fought inside. Come home and the cat is upstairs again with the basement door open. DH says that his parents are doing this on purpose so that we get mad and it will give them more ammunition and reason to leave without them feeling bad. DH says they do this often.
DH and the in-laws got into an argument and MIL tells DH that she loves me sometimes, hates me at other times, that I am difficult to live with, they feel like they are a burden on us, that they only moved here to help us, etc. DH told them that we didn’t need their help, we would’ve bought a cheaper house and we would’ve been fine.
My friend hosted a surprise baby shower for me and my MIL did not come although she was invited, because she “doesn’t do baby showers” and she claimed that nobody threw her a baby shower when she was pregnant, even though FIL said that yes, she did have a baby shower.
Still November…..
Woke up at 3am on a Saturday morning and it literally stunk so badly in our bedroom. I assumed that our dog had farted but it was so powerful so I got up and went out to the living room and there was liquid doggy diarrhea ALL OVER THE CARPET. Apparently this was the 5th time this month, I just didn’t document the first four. Keep in mind that I am due in December, so I’m super pregnant. Anyway, I scrubbed the floor at 3am and then had a shower and went back to bed, but had to wake up early for our maternity photoshoot that day.
I also discovered that when we got the mortgage, you have the option of including the yearly property taxes in with your mortgage payments or you can pay them yourself every year. FIL said that he’d pay the property tax each summer ($3500) and I discovered that he conveniently didn’t pay it for the previous year, and obviously now that they are moving out, we will be responsible for coming up with that $3500 each year. DH also gave his parents several thousands of dollars for money they had previously given us, but he didn’t want to feel like he was indebted to them, so he gave some of it back.
December 2016 – The in-laws finally moved out! They came over the day they moved out to give us a bag of dog treats that they had been hiding in the basement. When our dog was having all that diarrhea in November, I kept asking them if they were giving her anything and they kept saying no.
They didn’t even bother to clean the basement once they moved out, so I had to clean it. I steam cleaned the carpet and had to empty the container twice and it was disgustingly dirty. We have ledges that run around some of the rooms, and they had dirt caked on them from where the cats would walk/sit.
DH has a bad habit of smoking cigarettes, especially around his mother, who’s likely been smoking for 70 years (okay, well she’s only 72, but she likely started smoking when she was 10 or so). He had been smoking and I asked him to get me a drink. He took a sip of it and handed it to me. It stunk so badly and I said “this is why I don’t want you smoking around the baby!” MIL says “oh babies become immune to it”.
June 2017 – We went to British Columbia on a road trip. FIL texts DH to ask where our carpet cleaner is. We had lent it to a friend. DH asks why he needs it, and he tells us that our dog had another accident in the living room. Of course, only when the in-laws are taking care of her does she have these accidents. They claimed that our dog must have eaten something she found outside.
July 2017 – We came back from a mini road trip around Alberta that we had taken when our friend from Pakistan came to visit us. The in-laws had moved out of their apartment and were staying in our basement just for a couple nights, while we were on this road trip, and planned to move back to Ontario when we got back from the road trip, because they didn’t like it here. We got back from the road trip around midnight and went to bed. We woke up the next morning and the in-laws were gone. They drove/moved back to Ontario without saying goodbye.
December 2017 – The in-laws bought us plane tickets to go home for Christmas. We kept asking them if they had a car seat for us to use (DH has cousins and stuff so they said they would borrow one) or if we needed to buy one and get it sent to their house. They kept saying not to worry about it, that they’d take care of it. We arrived at the airport at like 4am and went to their truck, and the car seat was not even installed. It’s 4am, we’ve just travelled a ridiculously long time (5 hour drive to the airport plus a 3 hour flight plus delays plus waiting for the bags which took over an hour), it’s like -20 C and the car seat isn’t installed? DH tried to install it but it just would not get tight. And then we realized it had to be forward facing, still didn’t get tight. We honestly didn’t have any other options so we just had to put our daughter in it and pray to god that we’d get home okay. DH was angry, but FIL just kept saying “no worries, it’s okay” and DH was like “IT’S NOT OKAY! THIS IS ILLEGAL AND UNSAFE!” but the in-laws are just completely clueless.
January 2018 – We had gone home for Christmas, and stayed at the in-laws apartment. It was okay, as okay as it could be when I have to see my in-laws every day. MIL was her normal annoying self, DD was just learning to walk at this time and every day MIL would announce “oh today she walked 4 steps!” “Oh today she walked 5 steps!” and so on. It was like she was trying to prove something to me, I’m really not sure. On our last full day there, I was getting ready and went out to the living room. DH asked MIL what she was going to do that day, as we were going out and FIL was at work, and MIL doesn’t have her own vehicle. She said nothing. He asked if she wanted him to drop her off at Bingo. She said she had no money (untrue, they do have money, maybe most of it is tied up, but also while we were there they had told us how they had given their friend’s son $500 because he couldn’t pay his rent). DH said that he would pay for the Bingo and she immediately was like “OKAY!!!” And so I said “we can’t afford it either” which is 100% true. We are super struggling right now. And she said “well whose fault is that?” and I told her that yes, it’s our fault, but all the while thinking “you’re honestly okay with taking money from your son who has a young family and is struggling”. She even knows exactly how much money we are in debt, it’s tens of thousands of dollars, not including the car or the house. And with daycare starting up, that’s going to add an extra burden. So anyway, she flies up off the couch and gets right up in my face and proceeds to tell me that she doesn’t like me, I don’t like her (I told her that was untrue, I do like her, I just can only tolerate her in small doses, but didn’t mention that second part). She told me that I was antisocial, that I never talk, that I didn’t have dinner at their house once, etc. And that it would be a miracle if we were ever in the same room together again. DH unfortunately took his mother’s side on this occasion, and the rest of the day was horrible. He left, and wasn’t responding to texts or calls or anything. I went over to my sister’s and then my dad’s. My mom ended up calling my FIL about this and to ask what was going on, like my FIL was the one who was going to be driving us back to the airport early the next morning, and my FIL was just like “well if we see you at the airport tomorrow then we’ll see you” and my mom was like “uhhh there’s a child involved here!” and FIL didn’t even seem to care about that fact. Nor did DH really either, apparently.
Other information - Not to mention throughout the year that they lived with us, they continued to bail DH’s brother out. When they left, they had gotten him an apartment, given him a lot of their furniture, bought him a truck, paid for one year’s worth of insurance, etc. He lost the apartment, along with everything in it. They sent him money constantly, and I know, because they had to wire money through my brother, so I had to act as a middle man. And it was a lot of money. $700 here, $500 there. Now it’s all gone, nothing to show, including the truck.
And also, neither of them worked while they were here, until MIL got a job driving a school bus in August. They moved in the previous December. So for 8 months they didn’t work. They also didn’t help clean the upstairs of the house, and they rarely ever cooked dinner. DH and I worked full time, would come home from work and still cook dinner for all 4 of us. MIL claimed she didn’t feel comfortable in our kitchen, and she didn’t like our electric stove.
When I gave birth, do you think she came over to help? To let me take a shower, a nap, to maybe cook a meal for us? Nope, not even one time. I think she might’ve brought food over once? And she lived here (in the same city as us) for the first 7 months of DD's life.
When I was going back to work and DH was going to be at home with the baby, she said to my face “oh don’t worry, I’ll be here every day to help him!” Wow, thanks.
She’s also made digs about breastfeeding (I had to stop earlier than intended, around the 6 month mark, because I’d gone back to work and pumping wasn’t working out for me) and how daycares are scary and she never sent her kids to daycare (she worked as a school bus driver since DH was born so she just took them with her).
She has 7 kids. The first two kids she had when she was 14 and 15 and claimed she got pregnant via Immaculate Conception. I shit you not. Then she had two girls and a boy with some other man. Those kids went into foster care for a period of time (not sure exactly). The oldest daughter doesn’t speak to MIL. The son doesn’t speak to MIL anymore. Her daughter and her have a telephone relationship, but when DH paid for MIL to go out and visit her daughter, they got into a massive fight and the son had to come and rescue her. She hasn’t talked to the son since she left from that trip. She doesn’t talk to her two teenage grandchildren from her son. She never got along with her son’s wife. She doesn’t get along with FIL’s sister or his three adult nieces. She didn’t get along with her MIL for a very long time. And her personality is… very unique. She’s about 72 now, but you wouldn’t know it. She definitely acts younger. She’s very hyper, probably has some undiagnosed ADHD or something going on. When she gets excited she jumps around and stuff. She doesn’t hold her opinions in. we were at a store one time and she asked the teenage boy who worked there if he “liked his hair like that”. I almost died.
I’m probably forgetting a bunch. Good lord. Good thing I kept a journal about this stuff because I honestly forgot a lot of it.

My Fallout Vault Ideas

I know that there is posts for making vault ideas already, but i wanted to list some of my own
comment on them if you want and please suggest some ideas for new ones.

Background to my Vaults

One of the great minds of vault-tec is Alexander Markusburg, who created a lot more gecks then vault-tec ever said they made. Including 5 'Super Gecks', powerful enough to make the others Alexander made worthless. Afraid and worried for the world, he went and with numerous allies created many more vaults all over the world, known as the A-G vaults. He placed his super gecks in 5 special vaults under 5 certain cities. Soon he went into his private vault under the Berlin wall, known as the Berlin Vault. Inside is him, who created tons of bodies for himself and froze his old one, His head scientists who also have a few clone bodies, and numerous people brought in to help test his ideas, creations, and more. However one more thing,....due to the idea of magic from the dunwich locations in fallout, he was both a scientist, and a mage.
Note: Alexander is not op because, well....you could disable all of his clones and then kill him easily so....yea, he is still human, just a smart one who made things he couldn't trust in anyone's hands. Also unlike Vault Tec, Alexander didn't want to experiment too much, and thus only the F and G vaults are the ones where more experiments take place, due how they were made by some scientists that joined him from Vault Tec, not trusting them either.
Note 2: The Gun Runners are in a sense a company in the wasteland, thus if there is a base, and there is traders, you can still get companies.
Note 3: Vaults A-E all are mostly harmless, with more less chaotic situations and experiments
Note 4: I may not fit all of them here, so the most i will go to is to the 90th or 100th vault
Note 5: There is a lot of character i will make for each vault, if you want a character to be featured in one of the A-G vaults say so
Note 6: A mini geck is bascally a smaller portable geck with a few strong yet hard to recharge charges, once it's all used up, it breaks down.

The 5 Super Geck Vaults

The A Vaults (Scattered all over the world, and Alexander Jokes he placed one on the moon)

The B Vaults (Mostly North America, and the Caribbean)

The C Vaults (Mostly in Asia and Oceania)

The D Vaults (Mostly in South and Centural America as well as Africa and the Middle East)

The E Vaults (Mostly in Europe)

The F Vaults (aka when Alexander's vaults ended, and his fellow scientists vaults started afther these, alexander pulled the plug fully on vault building but 32 more scientists still went out and made some. All are near the water)

The G Vaults (only 32, made in the last few years before the bombs started falling across the world, made by the Lucky 32 scientists, as each made one of the vaults. All are under a existing building)
